PLNU Food Recovery Program

FRN LogoNovember 2015 was the official beginning of our food recovery program.

Food Recovery Facts:

- PLNU FRN Chapter Founder: Julia Brown

- Julia was a senior when she kick started the program, she's since graduated (:

- Julia, with the help of the PLNU Unit Marketing Coordinator recruited student volunteers

- Student volunteers meet in the dining hall at the close of business several days of the week, take food that would otherwise be thrown away, label & store it in a kitchen cooler.

- The San Diego Rescue Mission comes & picks this food up as many times as is needed throughout the week.

- The PLNU Student Marketing Intern is scheduled to meet the Rescue Mission to assist with the collection, weighing & recording of our donations.

- Fall 2016 semester we donated: 1,968 pounds of food!

- Spring 2017 semester we donate: 2,120 pounds of food!

- PLNU has met the Food Recovery Network criteria to be an official chapter as of December 2015.

Volunteering as part of our Food Recovery Program is amazing for the following reasons:

- Help get food that would otherwise be composted into the hands of local people in need

- There is no commitment, you can simply come in & volunteer Monday - Friday from 8-8:30 pm. Come in when you can! It's that easy...

- Build your resume with volunteer experience
